A home warranty is a service contract that provides coverage for the repair or replacement of major home systems and appliances. It offers homeowners a level of protection against unexpected breakdowns and failures.
Referred to as home protection plans, these plans ensure your home is shielded against unexpected expenses through manageable monthly payments, sparing you from costly surprises.
Here’s how a HomeLifeShield© home protection plan works:
When a covered system or appliance breaks down due to normal wear and tear, the homeowner contacts the warranty provider to request service. This is usually done through a toll-free number.
The warranty company coordinates with a network of pre-screened service providers. They will dispatch a qualified technician to diagnose and repair the issue. If the item cannot be repaired, the warranty may cover the replacement cost, subject to terms and conditions.
Homeowners pay a $75 service fee or deductible when a technician is dispatched. This fee is usually lower than the full cost of repairs or replacements. If the technician determines that the covered item can be repaired, they will proceed with the necessary fixes. If the item cannot be repaired, the warranty provider may cover the replacement cost based on the terms of the warranty.
At the end of the warranty term, homeowners can choose to renew their coverage for another term.
